Activation Fees

Activation Fees allow merchants to apply an additional one-time charge on the first billing cycle of a subscription.

This fee is charged only once, together with the first subscription payment, and is commonly used for setup-related costs.

What Is an Activation Price?

An activation price is a one-time fee added to the first charge of a subscription.

Typical use cases include:

  • Enrollment or registration fees
  • Setup or installation costs
  • Onboarding or activation services

After the first charge, the activation price is not applied again.

How Activation Prices Work

When a subscription includes an activation price:

  • The activation fee is added to the first payday charge
  • Subsequent charges include only the recurring price
  • The activation price follows the same currency and precision rules as standard prices

Quantity-Based Activation Prices

If the product is quantifiable, the activation price can be configured to scale with the selected quantity.

In this case:

  • The activation price is multiplied by the product quantity
  • The total activation fee is added to the first charge only

Examples

Single Activation Fee

  • Monthly subscription: CLP 15,000
  • Activation price: CLP 30,000

First charge:

  • CLP 45,000 (subscription + activation)

Subsequent charges:

  • CLP 15,000 per month

Quantity-Based Activation Fee

  • Product quantity: 3 units
  • Activation price: CLP 10,000 per unit

Activation fee:

  • 3 × CLP 10,000 = CLP 30,000

This amount is added only to the first subscription charge.

Best Practices

  • Use activation prices for one-time operational costs
  • Clearly communicate activation fees to customers before checkout
  • Avoid recurring activation fees
  • Combine activation prices with trial days only when intentional

Activation Prices give merchants flexibility to cover initial costs while keeping recurring charges clear and predictable.
